CEFPI Paragon Schoolhouse
Philadelphia, PA
The Conference on Educational Facility Planning (CEFPI) creates the Paragon
Schoolhouse Project as a voluntary, non–profit undertaking with the goal
of planning, designing, renovating and returning an existing needy school
to the community as a high–performance, healthy and sustainable school serving
current and future educational program needs.
The 32,000 SF, 3–story Spring Garden Elementary School – built in 1930 in Philadelphia – becomes the program’s Pilot School. Goals for the project include installation of a ground source heat pump, improvements in insulation, circulation, and lighting (including an increased infusion of natural daylighting), replacement of existing interior finishes with sustainable materials, addition of roof top gardens and a new roof, energy efficient window replacements, ADA improvements, new gym floors and a renovated auditorium.
