Lankenau High School
Additions and Renovations
Philadelphia, PA
Completion date to be determined
Lankenau High School is a 57,000 SF facility built in the 1980’s. This project
adds 14,000 SF in a new athletic facility and also aims to renovate the structure
to match the School District’s current educational standards by enhancing
the rather austere existing design. Great care is taken in the site selection
of the new athletic facility to avoid disturbing the existing dense tree
line surrounding the school and to work best with the steeply inclined and
challenging topography. The approach to the project design is exceptionally
unique in that it utilizes a full-fledged dynamic community planning process,
which directly involves the community, faculty, students, administration,
and local design professionals in the brainstorming process and charrette
design.
